Hi Friends
I hope all is well with you. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy what you see. I was inspired by a FTD bouquet I had seen online somewhere, I had to stop what I was doing and had to have a go at it while the idea was fresh in my mind.
Spellbinder Poinsetta die cut set
MS pine branches
Recipe
Well, this card took a while to make. It is not one of those cards you make in one hour or less. I needed for this card: Spellbinder Poinsetta die cut set and circle shape, MS punch, yellow pearls, CS to trace my own pot for the flowers and some strong double sided adhesive and 6 inches long of ribbon. Copper embossing powder, copper peel off lines, heat gun, inks with sponge daubers, bleach with small sponge, SU copper cord and a Happy Holiday rubberstamp for the sentiment. CS red and white. Card base is white, matting is red. Flower shaping mat (mouse pad can do) and different sizes of stylus and tweezers are also required.
Starting with the flower pot. After tracing one double thickness CS and glued the two layers firmly together I cut out and covered the whole area with super adhesive tape covering the whole pot. I started from the bottom, lining up copper cords approx. at the length needed to cover it from left to right. I would remove a layer of tape at a time so my cord wasn't sticking where I didn't want it. Done the layering all the way to the top. I made sure all the edges were firmly stuck to the tape then I turned over the work and cut out the excess cords on each side. I then ran a bead of tacky glue around the edges for more safety. I also ran a gold pen around the edges as seen in the 3rd photo, adding more interest to the look of the pot. I then adhered a ribbon around it and set aside.
My card base was in white, then I found some red paper I really liked, matted my card base, added the copper peel off lines and set it aside for later. I cut out my circle in white, waited until the flower pot was on the circle near the end to go ahead and stamp the Sentiment and emboss it. (Note: if you want to emboss without wharping the card, estimate where your stamping will be on the circle, just before you adhere the circle to the card base, heat emboss then. If you wait until it is glued to the card base it will result in wharping your whole card, which is not ideal)
For the flower part
I first cut out all of my flower parts. Used my Ebosser as always! For my poinsetta leaves I used 2 sizes bigger than the smallest of the flower die cuts. So I used the smallest for the flowers and skipped a size to use the next one up in the set in green CS. Cut out my MS pine branches in another tone of green, set that aside. Dampened my sponge in the bleach and ran the sponge across gently to the sides of the leaves to remove some of the green, it would give me a pale greyish color, when dried, then I took my yellow ink and with the sponge dauber I covered the whole area that had been paled by the bleach (let it dry after bleach was applied to get best results) after all the yellow was applied, I then picked a rusty ink color and just did the edges of the leaves as per seen on the photo. I shaped the leaves, not too much but enough to give it a little curve to it and let them dry completely. I did the same with the bleach on my red flowers but very little of it. I then sponged daubed them in yellow. Giving them a more natural look.
I took my flower pot and shaped it so the sides are bending toward the paper to give it a natural look, anything but flat look was what I was after. It was easy to shape. I added some pop up dots in the middle back of the pot and adhered it to a small CS circle in white to use as a backdrop to adhere my leaves and flowers to it. But first I had to place everything where I thought it would look good and then from the outside edges to the middle I started to fill up all the leaves and flowers that already had their pearls on at that time. Lastly I filled in the pine branches where it looked good. I turned the work around and cut out the excess of cardstock that wasn't used to glue on the leaves and flowers to, in preparation to glue on to the circle that was set aside for this purpose.
It was a fun card to make, but so time consuming. I suggest you try it without the inking part you will know if you would enjoy doing something like that and go ahead and play with bleach and experiment on the colors you can modify to add more natural look to a poinsetta bouquet. The temptation to make one similar with some white flowers has crossed my mind, but will have to see how quickly I can make my Christmas cards this week
I hope you have enjoyed my recipe and card. Please, before you leave, leave a little something in the comment box, I always enjoy reading your comments, nothing is too long and nothing is too short, not leaving anything is unthinkable hee hee
