Hi blogger friends!
I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas celebrations with family and a Happy New Year with people you love to spend time with.
Here we go! Ready for another year of fun shares. A quick update on our after the Holidays being over, we finally were able to put almost everything away some are waiting boxes to put away neatly but it is considered put away as it is near the attic right now. After the removal of all decorations, it was time for a great clean up and I did the whole house in one day, it was a lot of work and had to lie down when done. I was exhausted. LOL but it was a labor of love and love to be done for a few days anyway.
Throughout the Holidays, I happily made a discovery for a new product I had been looking or dreaming about for a long time. It was a paper trimmer of all things. Yes I know, why get so GAGA over a paper trimmer huh? Well, I must tell you that when you are making loads of cards like I am, my little Fiskar cutter takes a beating and you would think I eat blades because for each 10 to 15 cuts if I didn't change the small tiny blade that cuts the paper I would always get the fuzzy edge after cutting which was driving me bunkers. So I would buy the packages of 2 blades each chance I got and when it was also available at my Local craft store. Blades are not cheap.
www.cutterpillar.com is where I ended up by pure accident as I was like most of us do some Youtube videos on techniques for card making as well as some flowers made by many people. Anyhow, I got to see the video for this machine and I was hooked, I had to have it YESTERDAY! So I showed the video to my dear hubby and it was a go! Yes I have received my new trimmer and I am in Awe of what it does for me. Once you see the video that comes on this link I gave you, you will also say WOW. Unless you have a Genesis. But for me at this time this was my best choice. If you are not making as many cards as I am, I frankly say if you have the money go for it. You will be amazed to see the results as I am not kidding. Straight cuts each time. IE: Took a whole 25 cardstock from SU to cut to get ready for my next batch of cards, and all of them came out straight and no fuzzies. Once you tap all of the card stock into one pack onto the table you see how straight all of the card has cut and in such a neat way.
Today, finally here I am. I had so many things to get done before I decided to come and start my year here as well. But here it is, I am starting as promised with the two models of cards I made for this passed Christmas and will not leave a recipe for any of them. It is straight forward with coloring and piecing together the finished product that you will see and by now we are all tired of Christmas this and that right? So I will make this quick and painless for you. Then read passed the cards.....

Next, I wanted to start the New Year with one of the many cards I made for Valentine's Day. I have many to come and will do my best to explain the new techniques to me as well as some of you will have not heard of this before so I will show you, some cards I took some pride and some time to make it was a labor of love for me. So please feel free to comment, I would love to hear what you think....Sending thank you's ahead.
Recipe
This card was my first one I decided to make with my (long time stored LYRA box of 48 watercolor crayons) the list of things I used for this card are as follows: 3 watercolor crayons red, fuschia, and yellow. Canvas paper sold in pads at your craft supplier. Watercolor paper from pad. Glitter glue, glue gun the cooler glue one and glue to use with. Paper trimmer. Valentine's Sentiment stamp, Gold sheets (comes in rolls or sheets of different colors like silver, copper and sometimes black is also in there) Scissors. Heat gun. Cardstock for the card base. Spray bottle of water and patience.
Will start from the back going toward the focal point heart. With a watercolor paper cut to matting size my card was an A2 size card which is cutting an 8 1/2 inches X 11 inches card stock in half lengthwise. Which gives you a 4 1/4 inch X 5 1/2 inch piece which you will bend in half lengthwise. Matting comes next. A size slightly smaller than your 4.25 X 5.5 inch is needed for your watercolor paper to start watercoloring.
Watercoloring
No science involved with watercoloring as we pretty much have tried it once or twice in our lifetime right? But for those of you who want an easy technique here goes: I sprayed my WCCS (watercolor cardstock) with water in a prepared area not to wet anything other than the piece you work with. I took my crayons and scribbled all around the piece first and stopped when I saw the color was saturating the paper but not overly so. Then I went ahead with the water spray bottle and added water until I saw the water running around the piece to mix up the crayons and sometimes went and helped it with my fingers. Finger painting right? Re-applied some after using the heat gun for much quicker results. You can also let it dry by itself. I prefer instant results. So once you have touched up to your liking you leave it aside and with a paper towel you can iron your piece so it will not warp on your card.
Focal image matting
This piece was so fun to make. Let's start with a Canvas piece to the size you wish it to be, I forgot to take the measurement of mine but, you can see and easily make up the size of your own card. Then because the canvas paper is much more porous to work with it doesn't mean it is harder to do the watercoloring so you use the same technique as for the watercoloring up above even for the drying process, fast is fun. Love heat guns for that. Remember not to dry your papers too close it could burn your hard work. Keep a save distance of about 8 inches and farther and always move your heat gun around for anything you heat up to dry.
Decorating the focal point mat
Once my canvas is all dry, I took my glitter glue and went around the piece until I was pleased with the glittered look, I usually know that once it is dry it looks like there is a lot less glue so applying more than on a normal cardstock is ok since you are using a canvas. I heat set it making sure to keep it from bubbling while drying. Now for the glue gun operation if you have never used one before and you have one, please always make sure that you do not come in contact with the hot glue coming straight out of the gun. It will not feel good! Now keep that in mind for what is to follow, please. Never leave a hot glue gun plugged in with children around you....you get the picture. It's a neener....
Glue gun add on
Always working on the focal image MAT, heat up your glue gun, the cool heat gun (Sorry it escapes me the name of it but the glue coming out is not as hot as the HOT HOT glue gun LOL) Oh dear. Anyhow, about 10 minutes later it should be ready to use. With a foil sheet ready and your piece in hand apply a line of glue not too thick where you would like to be keeping in mind you will add a focal image to this later. Apply glue, deposit glue gun, and immediately apply the foil sheet the shiny side up facing you and with your finger go smooth it down slowly with a gently touch so you get the feel of your glue under the foil. Practice makes almost perfect. I went ahead and added a dot which is my favorite add on in the glue department.
Focal image
We are almost done folks, yes it is a long read but once you have read it all it will come to you like nature happens. You can go ahead and cut yourself a heart or in my case I used a heart punch from my stash, easy peasy. Now this is all done on your watercolor card stock. Repeat the same thing for watercoloring technique up about for the heart, the difference for me was to make sure I had two apparent colors to match the background watercolor effects. So I decided to keep the red and fuschia colors around the top edges of the heart and use more of the yellow at the bottom for clear definition. Once dry if any warping go iron it using a paper towel folded in half and your heart inside of it. You can use a squirt of water to help it out if it seems too stiff to flatten out. Ok back to finishing it. Apply some glitter glue on the yellow portion of the heart, dry it. Then back to the glue gun and foil sheet and do the same technique for the gold as it is a very effective look.
Now you can put your card together like an easy puzzle and admire your work and think, boy that was all worth trying it out. I must also tell you that when I do that type of work, I make it worth my while. I will make many of the pieces at once so I can make 5-8 cards from it all. So thinking ahead on how many you will need is a pretty good idea. Stamp out your Sentiment directly to the card or mat it onto another matching piece of watercolor card stock, really, anything goes!
That's it!
For a great majority of the cards that will ne shown next, I will refer to this technique so be prepared to get back to this page when needed. I will link it up if I can and know how hee hee
Have a great weekend everyone and I hope this was breaking out of your ordinary box, it sure was for me and will do it again in a heart beat it was so much fun. Leave a comment and if you have any different ideas to share, by all means I am opened to them.
Will share another card in a day or two. Come back soon!
P.S.: Sorry for any typo, spell check wasn't working :(
