Hi Friends
I hope I am giving you ideas to make your own projects. It wasn't easy to find the way to make 25 + 10 this week all for Valentine's Day, for my man, for friends nearby and so on. But once I broke the ice, mental block we all dislike having, I was able to make some pretty good things.
I also want to mention that I was also playing with another type of media/technique over the Holidays and I will tel you more in a few days when I show you one of the cards I made with this fun new product I used for the very first time and it won't be the last!
Here is the card I am sharing with you today:
Things needed to make this cutie one. White card base, white linen for frame, bright red CS, Black CS, Spellbinder rectangle die cut, Cuttlebug embossing folder. Black lace and ribbon for focal hearts (needle & thread)
Focal heart pieces
you will need some glossy white CS, Gold Leaf marker, Crayola wax crayons, a dedicated craft iron only (important), cover iron board with paper bag large enough to not drop the wax on it. Learned lesson! Crystal lacquer, heat gun. Patience. Patience is a very important tool. The more patient you are the more elegant the results will be.
Again, starting from the back to the front of the card. I have a white card base, which I then added a red CS that I embossed with a Cuttlebug folder.
Crayola Wax Crayons Technique
Using RED and very little WHITE crayons, I peeled some of the paper to leave me a good inch of use while I am in the middle of my work, always be prepared and be ahead of the next step ahead. On your properly mess protected ironing board and craft dedicated iron only (minimum setting no steam), a piece of your glossy CS facing upward. Iron in hand, turn it up to see the bottom of the iron and gribble some red crayon on it, you have to move quickly but very gently on the paper so you don't want to slide the wax outside of the paper. Try and work where there are no holes in the iron. Not easy but you will get the hang of it soon. Your goal is to cover your Glossy CS completely and when you see you are near completion add some white to it but necessary. With the iron as you work you want to create a pattern in the paper. You take you paper in left hand and with the right you bring the iron slightly to the wax already on the card and touch it and lift it, touch it and lift it application. You will see a pattern forming and you quickly do this all over your Glossy CS. Quick is the Key. I practiced on about 4 pieces before I was able to make something I would call good enough for the work ahead. Don't be too critical of yourself, just do this because it is FUN! Remember LOL
The making of the hearts
Your Glossy CS should be done large enough to accommodate 2 heart shapes and one matting if you look closely there is a mat under the framing part.
So you have 2 cut out hearts now and a properly sized mat to use later. Take your hearts, one at a time and apply some crystal lacquer to your hearts starting from the edge inward. make sure it is all covered look at it in different angles and set it aside to dry, do the same for the other heart. Too risky to manipulate and dry so better to leave it overnight to dry. The next step will be to add a line around the heart with your Gold Leaf marker. I hold the piece I want to line in my left hand, with the marker in my right hand I just work one side at a time and make sure when I rotate to the other side I don't touch the freshly marked gold.
Ribbon and Lace
The ribbon I used some satin ribbon about 2 inches long and glued the ends to make a closed circle. Flattened up the circle making sure to hide at the bottom the glued area. Then with a black threaded needdle and the one inch long piece of black ribbon I wrap around the piece of ribbon and sew it together in the back. Added a glue dot to adhere the bow to the heart. As for the lace, I had a very sophisticated black lace ribbon (from market in China) I just trimmed the top part of it without damaging the rest of the lace. Glued this piece to the heart and added some rhinestones to make a fancy neck piece.
The frame is easily made with any shape of Spellbinder you have, Cut the bottom part of your frame first. Secondly, I use the same die and the next smaller one in the set, put them together and tape them together so it is not touching. This will make your frame, run it in your machine and attach it to your back by using 3D foam. Then you can place your beautiful hearts inside the frame. See photo below for the frame making
I hope you enjoyed the technique. More to come LOL
Have a great creative day! If you have a mental blockage for creativity, try something new, it worked for me and I enjoyed getting out of my safe comfortable box.
