Hi friends,
Tuesday already, but all is well here. We are still busy and will be for the next 4 weeks. We are fixing and renovating a few items inside and outside of the house so that takes me away from making the normal load of cards I usually have to show you. But hang in tight, I'm still here, only a little slower than usual.
The weather is making it easy for us to work inside these days, winds and cooler nights are making our work load a lot more comfortable to get done without too much sweat. YEY on that one right?
Some wonderful friends that will possibly self identify in comment box later on, were asking me to go ahead and make a card box too as they had been into making some lately and wanted to see what I could come up with just for the fun of it. Challenging me to dare to make one. Sooooooooooooooo I did, LOL, after working on this box card in my sleep for a few weeks, also looking to find some extra time to make this project I can finally be proud to say it is DONE, I am proud to show you my "HONEY BEE BOX CARD". Possibly my last one. Read further to find out why.....
If you have followed my blog for years, you know by now that I have a hard time keeping things simple. By that, I mean, starting a project that I will see through without wanting to add, change or re-design in the process of it all.
If I know I need to use dimensions in my work, it is triggering some extra thinking because I will really want the dimensions to stand out. So this box card is time consuming to say the very least. But, having said that, I don't want to diminish the fun it is to make one by any means. I would strongly suggest you make a smaller one to start though.
So this box card measures 5" in. x 3.5 in. (just the base box) then the flaps makes it a little larger since it all has to be layered. As for the back including the height of the extra dangling flowers is measuring 8 inches tall. Once this box is collapsed it is measuring 8" inch tall x 8" 1/2 inch wide. To me this is large but it is beautiful.
I made my flowers from stamps, colored them with copic markers, enhanced them with a fixative to give it some glossy finish, then I added some pollen for each flower center. I made half a dozen of bees and butterflies from stamps as well (glittered up and prettied up as I saw fit). Because I like detailing, I can count about 24 hours total in making this box card. It has taken many different detail changing in the process as I would leave the box be for hours and come back later to see if it was pleasing my eyesight, if not, then I was changing what wasn't good enough until I said THIS IS DONE!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I showed it to my husband, which from whom I immediately saw a reaction, his satisfaction seeing the finished product, after he saw me making the flowers and all details for hours, he was truly pleased to see what I had built from scratch. I was really pleased to take photos to finally share this finished project with you today. I hope you feel inspired to try your own. It is a trial and error project but if you are a person who loves to fiddle around with detailing, this project is for you. No need to rush something like this.
There are so many videos on how to make this box card online, I will not point to one video so you can pick the one that will be easier for you to make one. All I can say is, I picked a video that shows you how to without any measurement. It takes the detailing and calculations out of the box and makes it so much user friendly.
One last word on my box card. It is a rectangular shaped box I made, a tip for you from me is to start small. If I had started smaller I would probably not be saying it would possibly be my last card box, but it is the last like this one, there will not ever be a duplicate of this card box made by me. You can make square shapes, longer shapes, shorter shapes, you design the size you want and you are ready to play.
PREPARE TO BE IMPRESSED WITH YOURSELF IF YOU MAKE ONE!
I hope that has inspired you to try your hand at making one too! This card box is made so it collapses on itself so it makes it easier to ship as I would use a padded envelope to send this if I decide to send it to a friend or a family member.
HAPPY DAY to you all!
Thanks for visiting and if you liked what you saw today, if it made you smile, feel free to leave a little comment before you leave. Thank you for looking.
Back to work I go!
